safe driving training
30-01-2015, 13:35PrintSpecial trainings are called safe driving training (briefly SHT) for drivers of automobiles. The trainings for different automobiles are organised in general in a safe driving centre.
Historically looked the safe driving training shows a stone of the road safety work whose bases in the beginning of the 70s, road safety associations and car manufacturers were laid. During the following years the training expiries of the so-called "centrifuge courses" were developed, extended by various modules and introduced in 1975 under the name "Safety training DVR".
The participants should be able to recognise dangers in the traffic on time by the courses and avoid by farsighted driving manner. It is an aim of the courses that the participants can master critical situations by knowledge and vehicle control. Besides, a sensitisation should be obtained for the impacts of modern vehicle technology (for example, ABS, ESP, transmission-slip control, driver's assistance systems). The objective is:
„Recognise dangers, avoid dangers, dangers master.“
The sponsorship of the safe driving training, by the directives of the DVR, more than 30 organizers, divide in Germany predominantly with approx. 60 training places and the road safety association as an organizer for the professional associations within the scope of the accident prevention training. The trainers or presenters of the courses are particularly trained by the respective organizer, as a licensee of the DVR, and must be certificated by this. On more than 80 training places more than 100,000 course participants are counted thus every year. Austria are offered to safety trainings and various certified driving schools.
Artificial water wall for the simulation of a suddenly appearing obstacle
The breaking off after crossing of the dynamics plate can be not always prevented, here it is no consequences
According to foreknowledge of the course participants the safe driving training is graded in different degrees of difficulty (e.g., construction course, advancers, perfection training etc.). The training always begins with a theoretical importation to the programming flowchart. Besides, is entered particularly on the knowledge and wishes of the participants, driving physics, the topical vehicle technology (anti-skid system, Electronic Stability control) and their borders. An investigation of the DEKRA proved that no measurable tyre wear in the vehicles is to be ascertained by the watered practise surfaces; with the full brake exercises on dry surfaces the wear would be to be accepted according to a normal distance of approx. 500 km. With the Pkw-SHT the man's portion with 75.5% dominates.
Before the journey beginning the right seat position is checked before the background of the optimum vehicle control as well as the possible injury danger by the air bag:
Back rest in 110 ° angles (explanation of the concept Submarining)
Arm position in 90 ° angles to the steering wheel
In small groups with maximum 12 participants the practical experience of driving physics is carried out, e.g., in the following exercises:
The hazard lights concern with a correct full braking full brakings with the so-called "buffalo step" (with vehicles with brake assistant)
"Get to know" of the braking distance with different speeds and road surfaces
Brake manoeuvre and change manoeuvre on different road surfaces and before a water wall (of actual steering angles, "steering wheel snatch")
Circular path journeys with provoked understeer or oversteering by the accelerator pedal
Slalom tracks and cornering concerning the "look training" and the steering wheel position (quarter to 3)
Simulation of a breaking out rear on crossing the dynamics plate (centrifuge plate) and next interception of the vehicle
Drive in reverse around obstacles
The motorcycle-safe driving training was carried out for the first time in 1978. While the first step of the Motorrad-SHT was conceived by ADAC, the advancement occurred through the institute of two-wheel safety from the point of the educational theory and psychology. For since 1999 valid third steps is responsible of the DVR. From 1979 to 2003 took part 183.346 motorcyclists in a safe driving training. The age group of from 35 to 65 years explains of the biggest contingent. According to foreknowledge of the drivers the courses are divided into entrance, base, intensive training and perfection training; also day exits after occurred training are offered.
To the warming-up this occurs
"Motorcycle gymnastics" (vertical, one-legged, on the tank seated etc.), afterwards
extreme slow journey for the balance training,
Slalom tracks ("swinging technology"),
Journeys of a circle (superficially the look training and "posture of the head"),
Brake exercises (full braking up to the state) as well as
Brake exercises and evasive exercises ("steering impulse technology").
Motorrad-SHT in the real traffic
Beside the classical motorcycle-safety training (MST) a new form of the SHT was developed: Safety tours in the real traffic. To announce this new kind of the SHT, the accident research of the insurer (UDV) together with the German road safety advice and the magazines "Tourenfahrer" and "motorcyclist" has brought to life the German Safety tour. Per year take place with the GST 10 motorcycle-safety tours with 10 participants and female participants.„ Trains“ becomes with the GST during a group exit. In the stations of a tour driving-practical exercises are carried out under instructions of the trainers straight for the improvement of the vehicle control. A determining component of the tour is the introspection and foreign observation during the exits. To the control of the observations tasks are set to the participants. They should pay attention, e.g., particularly to the roadway course or vehicles in the across traffic. During the tour provided video recordings are also evaluated. The safety tour should promote in this manner the action competence of the participants which is necessary for a defensive driving manner oriented to safety in the traffic. Besides, social aspects of the traffic behaviour receive a special weight.
The DVR has certificated the „training in the real traffic“ and, besides, is to be developed a manual for presenters, so that the contents of the GST can be offered as a „training in the real traffic“ in future all over the country in Germany.
To reduce the fear of strong slant, there is the possibility on barred places to finish a slant training. Tipping over prevents an especially reequipped motorcycle, with two lateral interpreters, in slant. The possible rolling angle is variably adjustable; 5 degrees of steps of 20 degrees to 55 degrees of slant there are usual. The slant training is offered by different suppliers as a supplement course within the scope of a safe driving training. Motorcycles with Sturzverhinderern (lateral interpreters) are known since the first road trials with anti-skid systems.
Transporter: Braking, brake exercises and evasive exercises, load fuse
Truck: Braking, brake exercises and evasive exercises, load fuse, shunting exercises
Coach: Braking, brake exercises and evasive exercises, shunting exercises
Tankers: Tilting border with cornering
Cross-country vehicles: Tilting border in the area, mountain journey and driving downhill
Camping vehicles: Special training for motorcycle combinations or campers
Extra buses: Passenger car extra buses see passenger car exercises, truck service vehicles see truck exercises
Personal custodian: separate training
Exercises to the power-saving driving manner are a component of a separate training.
List of successes
Statistical elevations of different companies proved for the participants in a safe driving training a significant reduction of accidents as well as a noticeable reduction of the consumption after the participation in an "Eco training".
